Palm trees, hydrangeas and shrubs are covered during the winter months to protect them from the nighttime frost (the climate is very mild in the area &#8211; it is not unusual to have temperatures around 15\u00b0C in December &#8211; but nighttime frosts can be harmful to the plants).
